Watch · Listen · Play · Read #3

I try to keep these for long weekends, but I haven't done one of these in such a long time and I've been introduced and immersed myself into so many new things related to pop culture. Happy Friday, everyone. Here are some things you should check out this weekend

To Watch · Mother!
I have not stopped talked about this movie since I have watched it, and it only gets better the second time. Mother is a film starring J-Law & Javier Bar-damn. At face value, J-Law has built this house from scratch when a stranger comes in, appearing sick, and Javi lets him into the house. One person escalates to a house full of people, and over two hours of anxious views because Aronofsky builds and builds the tension, and with the camera angles, you're following J-Law around the entire film so you really feel her anxiety.
After reading and watching interviews, it's revealed that J-Law is supposed to be Mother Nature, and Javi is playing God, and he continues to bring people into their paradise and J-Law provides, and provides and the people he invites in continue to take advantage of her and her home. I would call this a spoiler, but if you go into the film not knowing this I think you're going to miss a lot of symbolism and overlook the characters that come into the home.
It's a brilliant film. It's in the Redbox, but it's not a mindless watch. Make it a movie night where you put some thought into the movie you're watching, you won't regret it.

To Listen To · The Pop He Fakes
Drew Monson is honest, he's talented, and his music amplifies my feelings every time I've listed to this album. The best word I have to describe his sound is sweet. It's piano-heavy, and his voice is pure. All of the lyrics are honest, and you can hear it in his voice when he sings. Listening to it from start to finish makes me feel both happy, and sad, and it's beautiful. I'm grateful for this album.
Also, one time Drew messaged me back on Tumblr. I wish him nothing but the best.

To Play · Monopoly
I have been on a kick with this game lately. All I want to do is play Monopoly. It started at my cousin's house, and it's maneuvered to my best friend, and now all I want to do is play this with somebody, but nobody is ever in the mood to play Monopoly. It's a good way to test your friendships with people. For example, if they buy one of the properties while you have two of them in that block already, they aren't a real friend. I'm dying to get my hands on the Game of Thrones one. For now, it's Scooby-Doo.

To Read · Devotions
If I am ever feeling like there are fifty tabs open in my head, poetry does a great job of clearing that, always. It also inspires me to write. One of my favorites right now is Devotions by Mary Oliver. It's a vast collection from all of of her books, and it's full of beauty, wonder, and emotion. I also adore that you're not committing to an entire book in one weekend, you can read one or two poems, or read the excerpts from one of her books, and take a break. I'm envious of anybody who can take pen to paper like she can.
